Unforgettable Family Adventures: My Epic Day at Coco Cay with Royal Caribbean

When I look back on our family vacation, one day shines brighter than all the rest: our unforgettable adventure at Coco Cay, the stunning private island owned by Royal Caribbean. From the moment we stepped off the ship, we were met with warm sunshine, crashing waves, and the promise of a day filled with laughter and relaxation.

Coco Cay is a true paradise for families, boasting a variety of activities, breathtaking landscapes, and mouth-watering dining options. Join me as I share the details of our epic day, filled with joy and lasting memories.

Arrival at Coco Cay

Stepping off our cruise ship, the excitement was infectious. The island's vibrant colors and tropical palms enveloped us, inviting exploration. Friendly staff greeted us at the entrance and handed us a map highlighting the island's many attractions—something that eases any first-time visitor's confusion.

Exploring the Different Areas

Coco Cay features several distinct zones, each offering unique experiences. We eagerly began our day at the Thrill Waterpark, a perfect spot for adventurous families. There, my kids embraced the towering slides, including the Daredevil's Peak, which stands at an impressive 135 feet tall, making it the highest waterslide in North America. Even I was taken aback by my children's excitement as they conquered the heights, while I enjoyed a relaxing glide on the lazy river, absorbing the sun.

After a few splashtastic hours, we shifted to Chill Island, an inviting area designed for relaxation. The soft sandy beaches and gentle waves made it the perfect setting to lounge under the sun. We found a great spot to settle in, although I did find myself reconsidering the idea of renting a cabana for more comfort and privacy.

Renting a Cabana vs. Winging It

Our beach chairs were comfortable, but families renting cabanas seemed to enjoy a more indulgent experience. These cabanas offer plush seating, shade, and dedicated servers bringing delicious food and drinks throughout the day. For travelers with larger families or those looking for a quiet experience, a cabana rental might make sense.

If you prefer flexibility or are on a budget, beach chairs work just fine. Although we had a great time without the cabana, I can certainly see how it would enhance the experience, particularly for families with young children.

Dining Options

As the sun climbed higher, our stomachs rumbled, and we began thinking about food. Fortunately, Coco Cay offers an array of dining options to meet every taste. We chose Captain Jack's, a casual eatery where we devoured freshly grilled burgers and chicken along with local seafood. With its relaxed vibe and scenic views, it made for an enjoyable lunch spot.

For a more upscale dining experience, the Coco Beach Club features gourmet seafood and creative dishes, perfect for any special occasion. If you’re celebrating something memorable, this is definitely the place to set the mood.

The Over Water Cabanas

One of Coco Cay’s crown jewels is the breathtaking Over Water Cabanas. These luxurious spots sit above the water, offering stunning views and direct ocean access. While we didn’t rent one this time, I could hardly take my eyes off them. They appeared to be an ideal setting for a romantic escape or a special family gathering.

If you’re considering splurging on an Over Water Cabana, make sure to book well in advance as they fill up quickly. The experience of lounging above the waves while listening to the ocean's gentle sounds truly seems to be one-of-a-kind.

Water Park Fun

After lunch, we dashed back to the Thrill Waterpark for more excitement. My kids were thrilled to run back to the Daredevil's Peak, and it was a heartwarming moment to witness them overcome their fears. The large wave pool also provided fun for the entire family, with plenty of opportunities to splash about and create lasting memories.

Relaxing on the Beach

As the afternoon sun started to dip, we decided to unwind on the beach. Feeling the soft sand beneath our feet was heavenly, as we strolled along the shoreline. The views were simply spectacular, with golden sunlight reflecting off the ocean's surface.

We eventually found a peaceful spot to sit and soak in the scenery, reflecting on our day of adventure. It was a perfect way to relax after an action-packed day.
